I recommend you checkout the following web site: www/internment.net/data/canada/ontario/bruce/culross/smith
This is a site for the Smith Cemetery near Teeswater, Ontario. There are six Roane names in this list, five are in the same section and lot, and occupy graves 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. Grave 4 is listed for Mary Ann McKee, and that matches the first name of one of William Roane's daughters.

I am not totally certain that this is William Roane son of Sexton Crea (some spell Crey) Roane, but the matching names of William and three children's names strongly suggest this is worth pursuing. I am trying to contact the Administrator of the cemetery to obtain additional information.

The 1881 Canadian census shows a William Roane in Culross, Bruce South, Ontario. He is 45 years old (b: <1836>), a farmer, Irish origin, Canadain Presbyterian and married. There is also a William Roane in the 1871 Census listing everything the same, but stating his age as 50. This is a discrepancy of 15 years, but according to some, not uncommon for censuses. The 1881 census could be William the son of William, but he wouldn't have been 45 years old in 1881.

Also there is a possibility that William's sister Mary Ann [Roane] McMullen, believed to have married George McMullen, may have lived in Sydenham (near Owen Sound), which is only 70 miles from Teeswater.

Patricia, who posted a message earlier this month, has determined that two of Sexton Crea ten children immigrated to Canada, seven immigrated to the United States, and one remained in either England or Ireland in the service of the Queen (Army or Navy not sure).

If this William is the father of one you are researching, provide some information on the child in your lineage to help confirm information about William. Also, if you have a lead on William's wife, this will be helpful. I have nothing on William's marriage.
