Emma B. Roane-John Wesley Taylor - From TN to TX

I am trying to find my son-in-law's gg-grandparents, Emma B. ROAN and John Wesley TAYLOR, who married 21 Jan 1880 in Hunt Co., TX. Both of them were from TN, but I don't know where, and I don't know who their parents were. Emma's obituary stated she came to TX the year before she and John W. Taylor married, which would have been 1879.

There was a John W. Taylor (a wagon maker) family listed in the 1860-1900 Maury Co., TN census, and they had a son, John W., who was the right age to be John Wesley Taylor who married Emma B. Roan. John's death certificate shows he was born 16 Jan 1856. I don't have Emma's death certificate yet, but she was born 6 Jan 1861 in TN and died 24 Jun 1940 in Big Spring, Howard Co., TX. They were in Limestone Co. in 1900, Taylor Co. in 1910, Hill Co. in 1920, and then Emma was in Callahan Co. in 1930. (John died in 1926 in Callahan Co.)

Another reason I'm interested in the Maury Co., TN Taylors is that there were Roans in Maury Co. who ended up in Hunt Co., TX. Since Emma and John married in Hunt Co., I feel she is related to the Hunt Co., TX Roans. I found a William J. Roan in 1860 Maury Co. He was a wagoner. Here is the census information I found on this family:

1860 Maury Co., TN census, Columbia Post Office, District 9, taken 9 Jun 1860, page 21/368, dwelling 148-148, lines 15-20:

W. J. Roan, 21, male, wagoner, -/$3,300, MS; Margaret, 24, female, TN; Robt., 2, male, TN; William, 8/12, male, TN; Alexr. Shadden, 18, male, driving wagon, TN; and J. F. Rice, 28, male, driving wagon.

1880 Dickson Co., TN census, Civil District 9, taken 12 Jun 1880, roll T9_1252, supervisor's district 4, enumeration district 38, page 374d, dwelling 136-138, lines 6-16:

W. J. Roan, white, male, 42, head, married, farmer, TN, TN, TN; Margaret E., white, female, 44, wife, married, keeps house, TN, TN, TN; John C., white, male, 20, son, single, works in orebank; Merida, white, male, 15, son, single, works on farm, TN, TN, TN; Allan, white, female, 10, daughter, single, at home, TN, TN, TN; charley, white, male, 7, son, single, TN, TN, TN; and Cora J., white, female, 5, daughter, single, TN, TN, TN.

Next door in dwelling 137-139:

Robert Roan, white, male, 22, head, married, works in ore bank, TN, TN, TN; F. M., white, female, 25, wife, married, keeps house, TN, TN, TN; E. P., white, female, 10, daughter, single, at home, TN, TN, TN; and Nora, white, female, 5/12, born Jan, daughter, single, TN, TN, TN.

I also found these obituaries on the internet for John C. Roan of Hunt Co.:

Greenville Morning Herald, Sunday, 11 Apr 1937, page 5 - John C. Roan Dies Commerce - Special to the Herald - Commerce, Texas, April 10

John C. Roan, 77, passed away Friday at the family residence here after a short illness.

Final rites were conducted Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the chapel of the Sheely Funeral Home. Rev. T. L. Huffstatt conducted the rites, with interment following in Rosemount?? cemetery here.

Mr. Roan was born November 9, 1859 in Columbia County, Tennessee, son of William J. and Margaret Roan, and came to Texas in 1882, settling in Hunt County near Commerce and having resided here since. He had long been a member of the Methodist Church. His wife, the former Deborah Boswell, of Cumby, survives with the following children: Mrs. Allen Hammock, Hereford; Mrs. George Woosley, and Ernest, Gertrude, Louellen, J. C., and Leon Roan, all of Commerce. One brother, Charley Roan, of this city, and several grandchildren also survive.

Thursday, 15 Apr 1937, Greenville Messenger, page 8:

John C. Roan Died At Commerce Friday

John C. Roan, 77, died at Commerce last Friday.

A native of Tennessee, Mr. Roan had lived in Hunt county more than half a century and had lived a worthy and useful life.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and lived the Christian life.

He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Allen Hammock, Hereford; Mrs. Geo. Woosley, Ernest, Gertrude, Louellen, J. C., and Leon Roan, all of Commerce.

There was another John Roan family in Hunt Co. in 1880; this family was from AL, and also related to my son-in-law through his dad's HILL family. Emma B. ROAN is his mother's ancestor.

If anyone has any information at all on Emma or know of anyone who might, please contact me at or here on this forum. Thanks.
