Here is what little I know of a Roadhouse-Gill connection. There definately is one, but what I have is somewhat vague. The first William Roadhouse of my proven lineage appears in the records of the parish church of St. Wilfrid's at Monkfryston, England. He was born abt. 1720.I belive this William Roadhouse had at least two sons, William (my g-g-g-g-grandfather)born 1740, and Joseph. The name Roadhouse can be found back into the very early 1600's in the parish records of St. Wilfrid's in Monk Fryston.Although it has not been proven that these very early Roadhouses, Rhoadhouses, Rodehowse, Roydhouses and Rhodus' are all one family it seems more than likely that they are. This Joseph Roadhouse died in 1843 and had a son also named William Roadhouse (my g-g-g-g grandfather's nephew.
In a land deed it shows that William Roadhouse's (the nephew) father Joseph was married to a Mary Adson(maiden name), who apparently had been married previously to a Mr. Gill, as it states "...George Roadhouse of South Kirby in the county of York...eldest son and heir of at law of Joseph Roadhouse, deceased, who was one of the sons of Mary Gill{she dying before Joseph} deceased the daughter of John Adson late of South Elmsall is the said county stone mason deceased...of the first part and Timothy Gill of South Elmsall aforesaid mason...is another of the sons of the said Mary Gill deceased..."
I'm not too sure if this clears anything up or makes it more confusing. I have a 4th cousin who has done very extensive work regarding the Roadhouse family. In fact the above information is from his work.I will contact Gary to see if he has anymore information regarding the Gill connection. If he has anything else, I'll let you know.Stay posted.
