Hello, I am actually trying to untangle my Bell family but saw your situtation and wondered if you like myself need to find a divorce record. I called the Clerk's Office in Rockingham County and they have an index that goes back to the early 1800s. They were able to tell me the year of the divorce for John Bell and Sarah Petry, 1885. They then told me that the divorce would be found in the minutes of the Chancery Court Order Book for Rockingham County. I have not viewed the papers but have ordered film of these minutes from the Family History Center.
BTW: My husband's GGG Aunt Barbara Petry was married to Madison Roadcap in 1862.
