The following is a transcribed deed from the Washington County Virginia Deed Book, Volume 13, Page 304.
Does anyone know about a Roach - Wilder connection?
Know all men by these presents that I James Wilder senr of the County of Washington in the State of Virginia, for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I bear to James Roach Wilder my grand son who was twelve years of age on the 25th day of August last as well as for the consideration of fifty cents to me in hand paid by the said James Roach Wilder (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) have given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the said James Roach Wilder one grey mare now in my possession eight years old last spring estimated to be of the value of forty dollars with a remarkable lump on her right side of her head below the eye, occasioned by the kick of a horse. To Have and to hold the said grey mare unto him the said James Roach Wilder and his heirs forever – and the said James Wilder senr for himself and his heirs the said grey mare unto the said James Roach Wilder and his heirs against the claim of hence the said James Wilder senr and his heirs against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatever, shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents – In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name & affixed my seal this 22nd day of September 1838.
This Deed of Gift from James Wilder senr to James R Wilder was acknowledged in the Clerks office of Washington County on this 22nd day of September 1838 before Jacob Lynch Clerk of the said County by the said Wilder senr as his act and deed and ordered to be recorded.
