I have been trying to find info on the family members of Rufus Rix. I am descendant-inlaw of his daughter, Lydia. I found online last night: Rootsweb free pages has this, which is similar, likely copied from your source: Rootsweb Freepages, Stillwater, NY ( do not have “B”s, no Barbers) Rix Sylvester po Springwater farmer 137 acres, born Verona, Oneida co. Feb. 28, 1812, settled 1816; father Rufus Rix, who served in the Revolutionary war, settled 1816 with wife and seven children on land now owned by Hiram Becker; [Rufus] had three sons, Edmond, who was a captain, Samuel and James in war of 1812. On the Find a Grave, there is a photograph of Sylvester Rix' tombstone. It says: SYLVESTER RIX DIED DEC. 6, 1892 AGED 82 YRS Which would make his birth year 1810 I know the family came to Springwater as early settlers, in the 1814-1816 range, according to another Springwater or Livingston County history I found online. I believe Rufus lived in Grafton NY, and came from Grafton County, NH or Grafton VT. I believe he was an early settler in Grafton NY too. I found information online. I am not sure when he was in Ontario County, it must have been after 1812 and before 1814 or 16. I think it likely he was in Ontario County as the Barbers were there too, and they seem to have come to Livingston County together, and Lydia Rix and Erastus Barber were married somewhere along the way. This is what I wrote down after research, and I believe to be a good family history of Rufus Rix: Rufus Rix descends from the Rix family of Preston, New London County, Connecticut. His great great grandfather, Thomas Rix, emigrated from England to Salem, Massachusetts in the 1630s. His great grandfather James, stayed in Salem, but his grandfather, Thomas Rix, left Salem, moving his family to Preston, New London County, Connecticut sometime before his marriage in 1718. This is where Rufus' father, James, was born and resided. Rufus was born in Preston and was a veteran of the Revolutionary War, a soldier in a Connecticut regiment from 1776-1778 under Col. John Topham. In 1778 he joined a regiment out of Albany, and saw some fighting in New York. It is not known where he went after the War, it is thought that perhaps he lived in Grafton, Vermont for a time. He married in the 1780s (Lydia M, possibly Lydia Lewis), and his first son, Edmond, was born. In 1789 he sold property he most likely inherited from his father in Preston. The 1790 Census finds him near Grafton, New York, in Stephentown. He is mentioned in several histories of Grafton (New York) as an early settler of the town. At some point he moved his family to Oneida, New York. His first son, Edmond, would die in the War of 1812. Then in 1815 he again became an early settler, moving his family to Springwater, Livingston County, New York. His daughter, Lydia, wed Erastus Barber in Springwater. Sometime after 1820 he seems to have moved in with his son, Lewis. The exact date of his death is unknown, one source says 1827, another has it in 1845. Children of Rufus and Lydia M. Rix are James (Springwater, NY), Samuel (Springwater, NY), Edmund (died War of 1812), Esther, Hannah, Lydia (wed Erastus Barber Jr), Sylvester and Lewis (Canadice, NY). A great great grandfather of Rufus was Lieutenant Thomas Tracy, a forefather of Norwich, Connecticut through Grandmother Jerusha Tracy. Notify Administrator about this message?
