My G Grandfather was a slave of Dr. Charles Everett (died 1848) of Albemarle Co. Va. My G Grandfather's name is: William C. Rives. It is possible that my GG Grandfather is also named: William C. Rives. My Rives/Reeves family surnames include, from that era: Rives; Duke; Allen; Watson; Lewis; Johnson; Wilson; Nicholas; Myers; Bell; and Robertson. All surnames were those of the slaves/servants of Dr. Charles Everett, relocated from Albemarle Co, VA to Mercer County, PA. By this message, I am trying to discover the heritage of the above mentioned surnames. It appears that all surnames, or most, are the same as prominent white residents of the Albemarle, VA, general area. Also of interest is Elizabeth Everett, my G Grandmother, 2nd wife of my William C. Rives, parents of my Charles C. Reeves. Elizabeth was years younger than William, she does not appear in any document of Dr. Charles Everett, and by census records, was born in Pennsylvania. Was she Black or White? I am not positive but in later census, the entire family of my Charles is listed as "White". Family research is interesting, fun, and oh so frustrating at times. But very worthwhile. Perhaps someone can offer a little assistance with my mystery. Thank you. Bill D.
