My Rives Connection--Where did the Rives name come from?

My grandfather recently passed away and I've begun to
researh my history.

A brief description of my connectioin:

Justin Rives ( me )
Terry Rives (father)
Thelmer Edward Rives (grandfather)
Lewis Thelmer Rives
William Thomas Rives
William Joseph Rives (the first one to move to texas where I still live
today)
James Robert Rives (AL)
Thomas Henry Rives (NC)
William Rives (VA)
William Rives (VA)
George Rives (VA)
William Ryves (born 1636 England, Died 1695 in VA)

I would love to know and share more.

I really want know if anyone knows where the very first Rives started. How did we get that name?
