RITTER, Nathanial 1832
Searching for any information on Nathanial RITTER and ancestors. To the best of my gatherings, he was born August 22, 1832 in either western KY or southern IL/IN.He married 1865 to Mary Ellen BROWN in Butte, Montana and died July12, 1919 in Gold Hill, OR.Mary Ellen was born January 29, 1851 possibly in Iowa and died October 12, 1918 in Gold Hill, OR.Her parents were Andrew Jackson BROWN (1-29-1824 - 2-20-1874) and Martha A. Harp.
It is known that Nathanial moved around quite a bit. It's supposed that he left KY because of trouble with the law at a young age.Wether he knew Andrew Jackson BROWN before he married Andrew's daughter is unknown, but likely. It was in Butte that Andrew and Martha operated (owned?) a restaurant/tavern/hole-in-the-wall? that Mary Ellen worked in at the time Nathanial and she married.Nathanial is indeed 19 years older than Mary Ellen which is what leads to the reasoning that Nathanial knew Andrew previously.
Nathanial and Mary Ellen's children are Andrew Jackson, Joal Robert, James Pleasant, Charley, John Jacob, Walter Grey, Claude Roland, Myrtle Bessie, and Carl. The first few children were born in various places around eastern Oregon.
Any more information would be greatly appreciated.
Michael R. Ritter
