Michael Ritter Senior (b 1775)
It was just pointed out to me that the 1850 census (the chief record for Michael Ritter of Shelby County, Kentucky) actually lists him as Michael Ritter, Sr.The "Sr." was not on the transcription I was working with. But since it is clearly there on the census record itself, it indicates that Michael Ritter (1807-1863) may well be his son (by an earlier marriage before his 1836 marriage to Anne Lisby).
Does anyone have any indication about earlier marriages of Michael Sr.?Apparently he moved from Virginia to Jessamine County, Kentucky (1820 census) and from there to Shelby County (1830 census).
