Northwest MD/Pennsylvania Ritters
I am descended from a Michel Ritter of German background who migrated to Louisiana in the late 1700s. Apparently a group of Acadians (deported from Canada in 1750s) and Germans from the area of Hagarstown, Md.(near PA line) migrated by ship. Their ship was blown off course to Texas and they then made their way overland to Louisiana, eventually settling below Baton Rouge in the Manchac/Iberville area. Some of the German immigrants went back to MD and recruited more people to immigrqate to LA. Some of the German names I am aware of are Ritter, Orr, Sharp, Englehart, Kleinpeter. There were 2 more migrations to LA from this section of MD in the late 1700s. My ancestor, Michel Ritter settled in Opelousas, LA and was married to Catherine Bogard. There was another Ritter in the Manchac area named Nicolas Ritter who married Catherine _____. Can anyone tell me more about the Ritters in northwest MD or southern PA?
