First let me start by saying I am not wanting to create any problems I am simply looking for help. I have tracked my eldest family member James Risher to Colleton, SC 1810- until his death.Every generation of his decendants have remained in the area since. James is a African American and as you may know, were not allow to participate in the census until after Emancipation (1863). My ancestor was born in the area around 1810. The only Rishers in the area was Benjamin Risher Sr and his immediate family. I have located a Slave Schedule from 1850 listing the ages and sexes of his slaves. On the entire list I can find only one male Slave 40yrs old at the time and I believe this to be my ancestor James Risher. Would anyone have any information on slaves owned by Benjamin Risher? I know many slave owners kept journals, diaries etc... Does any of this type of information exist from this family? Where its located and how copies may be obtained? Thank you for any help that you can provide.
