James Franklin Risher, Jr. mentioned in my 5 Oct 2003 posting was born 8 May 1916, graduated from the Citadel, served in the Army Air Corps; retired from the US Air Force and passed away 22 July 1986.
James Franklin Risher, Sr.was born 26 Nov 1886 and passed away in April 1973.He was a graduate of the Citadel and at the time of his death owned Carlisle Military School (Bamberg, SC) and Camden Military School. He rests in Bamberg, SC's Southend Cemetery which is beside the site of the former Carlisle Military Schoo1.
J. F. Risher, SR's, father was Julius Rhett Risher; grandfather Richard Risher, Jr (died in October 1864 while serving in Company G, 4th SC Cavalry Reg.), great grandfather was Richard Risher, Sr.great great grandfather was Benjamin Risher, Sr., a veteran of the American Revolution.
Benjamin Risher, SR. is believed by some family researchers to have had at least 5 sons. Two sons, John Risher and James Risher apparently moved to the Mississippi/Alabama area before 1820Two sons Benajmin Risher, Jr andRichard Risher, Sr.made their homes in what is now modern Colleton County, SC.Both men passed away prior to their 30th birthdays.
Francis Fontaine Risher is generally agreed to have been the oldest son of Benjamin Risher, Sr.To the best of my knowledge little research has been done on Frank and his descendants. He is listed in the 1810 Federal Census as head of household in St. Bartholomew Parish, Colleton District.Frank probably moved to St. James Goose Creek Parish, Charleston District (now modern Berkley County.)The 1850 Federal Census shows a Benjamin Risher and other Rishers living there.
Are the two James Franklin Risher, Sr's related? Possibly.
Since your J. F. Risher was born in 1844, the 1850, 60, and 70 censuses may haveclues to his parent's names. Also, since he passed away in 1923 there should be a death certificate.
