Hello Carolyn -
Please note my December 12, 2000, posting on this RIRIE page. It seems that we have a mutual gg grandmother in Agnes Monette Choteau.
My great grandfather was Joseph Bryant (born at Grand Saline, on the Grand River, Indian Territory, c. 1858, and died in Pawhuska, OK in 1917); He was the son of Agnes Choteau and a man I've only been able to identify as James or "Mac" Bryant.
Agnes (born c. 1837, died ?) later married Louis P. Choteau in 1865, with whom she had (at least) four children, including your great grandmother, Josephine.
Would you, by chance, have any detailed info on Agnes Monette? And have you found any references to her, other than my December 12 posting, using that name combination?
I ask the latter because I've found several references to her listing just first names; ranging from Agnes, to Monette, to Margret, to Magniet, to Magnet. I just started referring to her as Agnes Monette because they were the two most common names I'd found for her.
I too have compiled ancestral info for her (from various sources) dating back to the early 1700's, but I'm having difficulty firming up her Osage lineage, or making a more solid connection between her and her first husband/partner, James or "Mac" Bryant, or her father (whom I believe to be August Pierre Choteau).
I'd appreciate any corroboration or details you could send my way. In any case, I'd be happy to share any/all the info I have as well if it's of any interest.
