Ringo in Verune Belgium
Just returned from Ringo family check in Belgium. Stopped by Verune to view the iron head of our Ringo ancestor with a iron clamp in his mouth on display in the town hall. In 1558 Mr Ringo spoke up at a town meeting to complain about the increase in taxes. This type of speaking out was not accepted in 1558. They had a trial he was sentenced to death, but because he had a good reputation in the community they decided to just clamp his mouth shut. Bet that hurt. I tryed to talk with the current Burgomaster (mayor), but when he learned there was some guy named Ringo wanting to see him, he left out the back door. They keep the Ringo head in a glass case in the town meeting hall. I think the town politicians like to keep it on display as a warning to the current citizens of Verune. In doing the numbers, I think this Ringo was Philip Janszen Ringo's great grandfather. So if you have a Ringo relative who tends to talk too much. We can't help it, it's in the genes.
