My exercise for the weekend was pouring over census scans.
I found 27 year old Harvey Ringer living in a rented house on Front Street in Copley,PA on page 1 in 1900 Census for Lehigh County, with his parents. Harvey is shown a widower and daughter "May" is shown as 7 years old. Also residing in this household are two adult single brothers, John A., age 38, b. May 1862, and Samuel, age 19, b. May 1881. Their mother is Edawillia, born April 1839 and the father is Ringer, A?????? [couldn't makeout the name from the scan], born Nov. 1836. They are married 42 years [so I project they married in 1858] and she has 4 living children at that point of her life, so one is liivng elsewhere on June 12, 1900. There is also a 20 year old female servent, "B" D???p?, residing there that day. All household residents were born in PA as were all their parents. But the fun thing is that while they all can read & write Edawillia cannot speak English [I'll put my money on PA Dutch]. The men all claim to speak English, but I suspect the whole family spoke "Dutch" at home. All of the men are shown as "laboror".
I hope with a different name like the mom's I hope it will be "easy" to find the parents in Lehigh County through their adult life. More research. So next question is did Sam and John move to NY with Harvey too? Wonder if they ever married. Lehigh County census records not online yet for other years. So will need to find a library, or head to Lehigh County.
