Lynette Johnson Rinehart
AIKEN, S.C. - - Lynette Johnson Rinehart of Aiken, SC, widow of the late Clifford Atley Red Rinehart, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011. Mrs. Rinehart was born July 1, 1929 in Graniteville, SC. Mrs. Rinehart was predeceased by her sister, Betty Jane Johnson Fulmer and her eldest son, Dr. Clifford Atley Rinehart, Jr. Survivors include son, Dr. William Fredrick Rinehart (Perri), of Murrells Inlet, SC; daughter, Carol Lynette Rinehart of Aiken, SC; sister, Marlyn Lindeen of Cummings, GA. She has three grandchildren: Dr. Brandon Kendall Rinehart, D.M.D. of Murrells Inlet, SC; Mrs. Jilian Rinehart Sansbury who attends MUSC and Caroline Rinehart Niland who attends the Charleston School of Law; both of Charleston, SC. As a principal, Lynette successfully guided two schools to Palmetto's Finest School awards in 1980 and 1992. Lynette was nominated and selected through a statewide process conducted by the South Carolina Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals for a national award, sponsored by the United States Department of Education and National Association of Elementary Principals. She represented South Carolina educators in Washington, DC as one of sixty 1989 recipients from the entire United States of the prestigious National Distinguished Principals Award. She was also one of the three school educators in South Carolina to receive the 1989 William D. Harley Administrator of the Year Award for recognition as one of the finest principals and school administrators in South Carolina. The late South Carolina Governor, Carroll Campbell, stated to Mrs. Rinehart, I wish I could clone you! Mayor Fred B. Cavanaugh, City of Aiken Mayor, proclaimed the 29th day of May, 1992 as Lynette Rinehart Day. Furthermore, the South Carolina House of Representatives declared May 19, 1992 as Lynette Rinehart Day. The Aiken County road, Rinehart Way, located off the Robert Bell Parkway connecting to Aiken Elementary, was named in Mrs. Rinehart's honor. After her retirement, Lynette and Red were members of the Aiken Assembly and Leisure Club, volunteered as Hospital Auxiliary with the Pharmacy Department at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, and traveled the world together. They both graduated from Clemson University Extension's 1997 Master Gardener class and invited their friends and groups to tour their gardens. Lynette was a member of the Fellowship Class at St. John's United Methodist Church. Visitation is from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on August 15, 2011, at Hatcher Funeral Home, US Highway 1, Langley, SC. Celebration of Life service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Aiken. Honorary Pallbearers are Frederick Fulmer, nephew, and the members of the Fellowship Class of St. John's Methodist Church. Pallbearers are Dr. Brandon Rinehart, Mr. Robert Sansbury, Mr. Tim Thorton, Mr. Mark Fulmer, Mr. Travis Fulmer, and Mr. Lee Fulmer. Car procession to the burial is at 8:30 a.m. from Hatcher Funeral Home to the historical Graniteville Cemetery.
