Judi, according to the 1900 Scott Co AR census info James H. Riley was b Jan 1842 OH;father b VAmother b ME
That fits with the info on George W. Riley of Ross Co OHpg 97D 143 F 149who was b VAand wife Sarah b ME
In the household was a son James Hage 8.This family moved to Pike Co IL as they are on the 1860 census there in Barry twp and James H. Riley was shown as 17.
I checked the IL marriage records and only found a James Riley m. Mary F. Apple in McDonough Co IL 12 July 1866.
I believe that this couple was on the 1880 census for Crawford Co ARbut he was shown as James A. Rileyage 38 b OHother info matched:f b VAm b MEso I don't know ifit was a mistake that the middle initial is A instead of H.
Family lore says that James H. Riley was married more than once.Only marriage I can prove was to Mrs. Minerva Parker on 18 May 1890 Crawford Co AR.He was abt 13 yrs older than she was.She had 2 previous marriages and a child from each.Since he was 48 yrs of age it stands to reason that he had been married before but nothing for sure.
I just made contact with another descendant of James H. Riley and she says that her grandmother's grandmother was named Sarah Ann Shadow. That really is a poser because I can find zilch on a person by that name. She would have had to have been James H. Riley's mother to be Maud Riley's grandmother.
Oh,what a tangle web our ancestors wove,Bettye
