I am trying to find the parents of Allen Rigsby b. 1779 in NC, died at age 90+ in
Randolph or Early c. georgia. I suspect he may be related to the Rigsbys in the Wake,
Chatham, and Orange co. area of NC.

Allen was married to Margaret Johnson,had ten children: Samuel, Lewis Johnson,
Andrew, Jeff, Thomas, John, Eliza, Polly, Charity and Wiley Taylor. All were born
in Ga., Samuel raised a family at Cuthbert, Ga.,Lewis Jhnson went to Texas,
Andrew ?, Jeff ?, Thomas died in Alabama, John ended up in Alabama,Eliza
married Ause Langley, Polly maried [1826-09-28] Ab Hopson 1788,
Charity married Sam Day and
ended up in Texas, Wiley Taylor stayed in Ga.

I Have no evidence of a father or mother [for Allen], only a posibility.
A grandfather Nicholas
Rigybe who married Sarah Lain. They had two children Sarah and Elizabeth.
Sarah married a Wiley Taylor, had one child Allen. They gave him last surname of
Rigsby because the Rigsby name was far better than Taylor. If you find this to be
true in any of your searches, please let me know.

Allens father was Wiley Taylor. He did not take the name of his
father, but instead took the name of his mother Rigsby. He di thispartly
because Sarahs father had two girls and no son to carry on thename and
partly because the Rigsby name had some privlege with it.

My GGgrand father was born Cuthbert in 1867, Can't read his
mothers name but he had a sister 7 Allice (2 L's)
He married an Annie Pollock and he was a member of the Mt.
Hebron Baptist Church in Cuthbert.
I Didn't see any connection except the Randolph County and from
my research I only found about 4-5 Rigsby families in that area
around the 1870 census.
My GGgrandfather name Willis Wilken Rigsby
had 3 sons (in Americus, Ga)
Shelley Andrew,Homer and Rollins(Roland)Which I saw a Roland
in your info (I know it a long shot but could that be a family name?,
passed down)
Also had 1 daughter Artie Mae Rigsby
W.W.Rigsby Married Annie Pollock (my GGgrandmother)
I found a mother and father Pollock Buried in Mt Hebron Baptist
Church grave yard.

One of Andrew Jackson's veterans, John Rigsby, died at his home on the 22nd
of March in Randolph county. The Wedowee Observer says: Mr. John Rigsby, one
of our oldest and best citizens, passed from the stage of action at his home
in this county on the 23rd inst. He joined the U.S. Army as a drummer boy at
the age of nine years and was with the illustrious Andrew Jackson at the
battle of New Orleans on the 8th day of January 1815. His was one of the
drums to the sound of which those gallant heroes marched forth with
patriotic pride to meet and conquer the forces of Edward Packenham, the
British General then invading our shores. Mr. Rigsby has for several years
drawn a pension from the United States for his services during that time.

I have not yet found any of our Lee's in the 1850 census,
but our John Lee would have been 22 years old, and may
have been using his middle name, Anderson. He resided in
Cuthbert, Randolph Co., Ga. from 1852, when he married
Mary Ann Rigsby, until he moved to Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas (before
1890) where he died in March 1907 of tetanus.

JANE LAWSON was born in 1790 in Hancock County, Georgia. (9) She married William Lewis Foster
in Wilkes County, Georgia, on 3-11-1808.
Children of Jane were:
"Polly" or Mary (married Lewis Rigsby)
MARY FOSTER (Known as Aunt Polly) was born in Wilkes County, Georgia in 1816 and married in
Monroe County, Georgia on 1-9-1831 to Lewis John Rigsby. In 1840 they moved to Texas and lived in
Angelina County, then Tyler County. She studied the science and practice of medicine, specializing in the
treatment of women, and treated the ill in her community all of her life. She was much beloved for her
charitable works. She died in Tyler County on 5-3-1893. Lewis Rigsby was born in North Carolina in
1802 and died in Tyler County on 7-27-1892. (12) Children were: Elizabeth Ann (married Jeremiah
Todd Barclay), Jeff, Sarah Jane (married (1) a Burke (2) a Millener), John Lewis, Franklin, Wyley
(married Sallie Good), Shep, Monroe (married Mildred Bradshaw), Emily, Anne (married Jim
Goolsbey), Frankie and William. She had one set of triplets and several sets of twins in this group.
ELIZABETH ANN RIGSBY was born 7-13-1833, in Monroe County, Georgia, and died 1-21-1890, in
Barclay, Falls County, Texas. She was married 1-10-1849 to Jeremiah Todd Barclay (born 7-1-1826 in
Alabama) who was killed on election day, 8-3- 1850 by a disgruntled candidate named Hanks. She
married on 1-15-1857, Thomas Franklin Herring (9-12-1833 to 188_). Children of this last marriage
were Lewis, Cora (married Jake French), Charles, Clinton, Lawrence Rice. She was an accomplished
violinist and taught music to all of her children. She had them read classics and the dictionary as they
could not go to college.

So I will conclude by telling you of yours truly. I, William Washington
Arnett was born in Franklin Co., Ala. on the fifth day of January 1823.
That makes me about 66 years old or as the Mexicans say "Poka Paho".
I left Miss. on the 21st day of August 1845 and fooled along the 25 day
of August before I crossed the Sabine. All of a sudden I got in a hurry
and crossed just at sunrise on the 25th day of August, 1845, 24 years
in Texas. Now don't that make me an old Texan and you have been in Texas
longer than I have. Well, I came to your Pa's at Town Bluff in September.
There I first saw you, your Ma, your Grandpa K. and Zeke Fulgive, but
don't you think that Bob was a better man than Zeke. I then went to Wolf
Creek to see C. C. and Family (Cullen) and got acquanted withe the Wolf
Creek ticks. Do you remember them? While I was teaching that school you
spoke of, I wrote resolutions to govern myself by one was "I will never
kill a tick in Tyler Co. with the expectation of lessening their number".
While I was writing this George K. was making love to Frankie, you were
asleep and I was winking at Ana Liza Rigsby. Poor Frankie, poor Ana Liza
and poor me, little did we know about the "Sweet Bye and Bye", but we do
know now you see.

William Albert Keener - A student at Professor Joseph Derry's school
Born March 10, 1856 in Augusta and died April 22, 1913 in New York City.
The son of Henry Keener (c1802-1860) an Augusta carpenter, and Isabella
Colson (1819-1866) an Englishwoman, he was also raised by a stepfather,
John Odom (c1813-1866). After the death of his parents, he joined the
household of his married sister, Harriet and her husband John W. Rigsby, who
was a grocer at 5th and Broad who also had a stall in the Lower Market. The
Rigsbys lived on lower Broad Street. William Keener attended Emory
College at Oxford, and Harvard Law School. He practiced law in New York
City, and taught in the law schools at Harvard, Columbia and Fordham. He
was Dean of the Columbia University law school from 1891-1901, and then
filled an unexpired term in the Supreme Court of New York. He married in 1878 to Frances McLeod
Smith of Somerville, Massachusetts. The William Albert Keener Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta legal
fraternity at Emory University is named in his honor.
