Hi Doyle,
I believe the best approach would be to identify one our two participants from each branch of the family. Given our knowledge of the Rigdon family history through the paper trail, I believe that a small study would provide everything we needed to know.
The George Surname project uses a commercial testing service. I will check to see what the current minimum number of participants is for a family study.
If we wanted to take a bit of a risk, we could start the study in the hope that more would join later.
A safer approach would be to wait until we had a number of participants identified before starting the study.
I would be happy to organize the study, but cannot particpate myself, since I am not in the direct male line. However, the RIGDON family is my second area of interest in genealogy. My paternal grandmother was a Rigdon.
Although we use a commercial testing service, the study itself would be totally non-profit. Basically, I would handle the paperwork on my own time and set up the web site on the commercial service I use.
Monte George
