Hi Donna-
My mother was descnedent from the Riel line, but "some" Riel married into the LeBlanc family (my great-grandmothers side) then Married my Great Grrandfather Thomas William Lariviere. They settled in Syracuse, NY, but my Grandfather's death certificate says that he was born in Troy, NY.
They were also from Canada, and had some degree of Native blood, but I can't seem to make the link beyond my Great Grandmother. It is possible that we are related through the Riel side.
Now, Louis Riel's great-grandmother was a Chippewa moman named Mare-Joseph LeBlanc (whih I think may be my connection but I am not sure). But of his many sibings, I know that a few were also married to native born women.

Do you have any Genealogy on your great grandfather's line? Either forward or backward? it would be interestng to see if there is any distant link, but apparently, there isn't a close one.
Let me know!
Thanks and good luck!
Mark
