HI!
My NAme is Clifford Commanda Riel...
I am from, and live in MAniwaki Quebec.
My father is Serge Riel, his father is Alfonse RIel (not sure on the spelling...) HIs wife is Lucia (dunno maiden name)
What I was told:
The riel family came here because of the chance to work in LUmber, specifically working on the boats as "Draveurs" (walking on and pushing logs behind boats) They came by train, as the train tracks stopped here in MAniwaki. They came from the Gatineau, Buckingham, Hull area. The work place was from MOnt LAurier, to grand remous, to maniwaki, and all the way to the gatineau region. (very near to Ottawa)
Descendants of Louis Riel?:

Misc Info:
The riel family have strong links in this region with the McDougall, and Beaudoin Famiilies. Well, within the last 100 years anyways. My mother, born an Odjick, on reserve, (kitigan zibi / Algonquin) has Riel background. My father carries the Riel name, and hence so do I. Father is non native though. Our reserve has McDougalls, and BEaudoins on it. More info can be found from the Holy Rosary church (on reserve) and at PAroise de l'assomption in maniwaki.
