Dear Mark,
it is not easy to find relationships between the different forms of the name Rieke Rieken My name is Heinz Berend Rieke, I was born in Oostfriesland, but my Rieke-ancesters came from Papenburg at the river Eems. The first Rieke appeared there about 1680 coming from Recke in the county of Tecklenburg.(Rieke is the westfalian prononciaton of Recke). In Oostfriesland live some families with the name Rieken, they are not related. The form Rieken is typical for Friesland. A man with the name Rieke Janssen may have a son Jan, who was then called Jan Rieken. Since 1830 the Eastfrisians had to use steady family names and the form Rieken is often. Older is the form Riekena, used in prov. Friesland, Groninger Ommelanden, and Oostfriesland.Regards Heinz
