Dianne- I have a Frederick Riehl- My grandmother put this in a geneology book of mine about 13 years ago and this is what it says :o)

William Henry Riehl left Germany in about 1843 to avoid enlisting in the German Army. His father Frederick was a lieutenant in the German Army and a stern taskmaster to his son.

William came to NYC and neer became a naturalized citizen.

She also says that William was born in Hanover, Germany and that Frederick was married to Ernestine.

Does this sound like the same Frederick? I have a little more information on the actual line, but I am not sure if I have what you need (FYI... Frederick is my GGGG Grandfather)

I hope this helps,
Elisabeth
