MEREDOSIA - Gene T. "Jack" Ridings, 94, of Meredosia died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

He was born Nov. 3, 1911, near White Hall, the son of Tom C. and Sarah C. Tatman Ridings.

Mr. Ridings graduated from White Hall High School in 1932. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippine Islands. He was captured by the Japanese on April 12, 1942, and held prisoner until Sept. 13, 1945, during which time he survived the Bataan Death March. He attended Moler Barber College and barbered in several area towns for many years and at the state hospital in Jacksonville for more than 20 years.

He was a member of Bluffs Methodist Church and, for more than 50 years, White Hall American Legion Post 70.

Survivors: sister, Elsie Geers of White Hall; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, White Hall. Burial: White Hall Cemetery.
