George Rider/Ryder, Pennsylvania>VA>TN
I'm trying to figure out how this family fits in with mine.
The 1860 Hawkins County, TN census lists the following members of George's household:
George 72
Elizabeth 50
Andrew J. 22
Harvy V. (1850 lists him as Vanburen) 20
Annie 18
Rachel 16
Elmira 13
Richard 12
William 9
Minerva 6
There are several things about this list that interest me.
My ancester, who lived in Claiborne County, TN, was named Harvey Van Ryder (they apparently changed the spelling sometime around 1870).He's not the Harvy V. listed above, because mine wasn't born until 1868.Unfortunately, I can't find any additional information on the Harvy V. listed above after 1860.
The Richard Rider listed above married Frances Carter, who is also related to my family in TN.This is another reason I believe my Harvey Van Ryder belongs to George's line, but I can't figure out where. All of the men seem to disappear in 1870, but Richard surfaces again later.
My grandmother also mentioned to me once, when I was far too young to care, that there was some whispered scandal in the family. She never would get specific, but swore that it was false.Seeing the story of George's abandoned family in VA makes me thing that it was not only true, but that this is another reason why this line might belong to me.
Does anyone have any information on who either of these two Harvey Van(buren) Riders/Ryders are?
Thanks for any help!
