Sir,
I am Willie Gail Riddles Rotzoll, dau/Willie Ray Riddles b.1907 Tex.>s/oThomas Edward Riddles b.1855 Ark.>s/o Harvey/Harva Riddles b.1821 to 1824 Gallatin,Ill.>s/o Richard Riddle/Riddles b. 1785 NC/SC.
After many years of researching Richard and Celia Riddles, I have come to the conclusion that Richard is not the s/o John Riddle & Mary Keean,[Keen, Keehn, Koehn] that everyone is now accepting as his parents and have posted on Ancestry.com family trees.
First of All, Richard is not mentioned in John Riddle's will
recorded Rowan C., NC Wills, Book H, page 365. He was not just intentionally omitted, he simply was not an heir. Had he been disowned or given land or money sometime in the past the will would have stated that fact. Or if given a token amount this also would be stated so that he could not contest the will at a later time.
Secondly, a typical family adhered to traditional naming patterns of their day, i.e., first born sons & daus. were named after the couple's parents, [John b. 1803/05 could be after Celia's father.]
So it stands to reason that if Richard & Celia followed the tradition, then Catherine would have been named after Richard's Mother. There is no Mary among their children unless of course the first dau. is Mary Catherine.
There are additional children as yet to be identified and I am suggesting maybe Harrisaon A., Eli, Rachael, and Rebecca.
Would appreciate any comments.
Thank-you, Willie Gail Riddles-Rotzoll
