Page 360 of Riddles of Chatham County, NC, HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT RYEDALES AND THEIR DESCENDANTS by G. T. Ridlon states that "JULIUS RIDDLE(1) came to Chatham County, NC from Scotland or the North of Ireland. He married Nancy Mentor, and had issue seven sons and probably daughters, but the names of the latter have not reached me. This member of the Riddle family must have been born as early as 1720 or '25; time of death unknown. He was a farmer and landowner; was presumably a connection of the ancestors of other Southern families. Died in 1756, leaving a widow and seven sons." Children of Julius and Nancy Riddle are: William Riddle, born March 13, 1746, Chatham County, NC m. Jane Mentor (from another source)*. Capt. Richard Riddle, born abt. 1750; Capt. Cato Riddle, born, March 10, 1755 near Haywood, Chatham County, NC John Riddle, date of birth not listed; Thomas Riddle, date of birth not listed; Julius Riddle, date of birth not listed; and, Brantly Riddle, born abt. 1760. *I have more information on William and Jane Mentor if you are interested.
