Riddicks in Camden or Pasquotank County, NC
Hello Riddick Descendants,
For decades, Cartwright researchers have been looking for a Reddick woman who married Robert N. Cartwright around 1790, probably in Camden County, NC.From my research, I have seen the surname Riddick and Reddick used interchangeably by census takers, tax recorders and even in court documents.Since my gg and ggg-grandfathers spelled their first name Reddick (they were the son and grandson of Robert N. Cartwright), that forum is where we have been posting inquiries without success.Hopefully, someone on this forum can help us.
From what I have found, both the Reddicks and Cartwrights were in the area of the Great Dismal Swamp in Virginia. Both families migrated to North Carolina in the part that was originally "Old Albemarle".I have found early (1730s)Cartwrights in Perquimans County who overlap the early Riddick families but the most likely place for my gggg-grandparents to have met is in the Pasquotank/Camden area. There were only a few Riddick families living in this area between 1760 to 1790.I sincerely hope someone descended from one of them, or a Riddick researcher familiar with them, will read this post and respond.
Thank you for your time and attention.
