James Lee Riddick 1/25/04
I have been entering infomation from my booklet "Historical Highlights of Camden County, 1777-1977" which has the following information:In an article about the Dismal Swamp - "George Washington entered the swamp from the plantation of Colonel Edward Riddick in Nansemond County, Virginia. Both the Riddick plantation and new found land are indicated on John Collet's map (1770)."
"Interest in the canal was to be divided among eight share holders" (among those was Mills Riddick).
"One other item was recorded in Camden County Court, August 7, 1815, relative to William Fontaine. At this court, Colonel Fontaine asked Mills Riddick for an advance of money which Mr. Riddick said he was not able to supply and he preferred that his name be withdrawn from the subscription."
