Hello Barbara Morey, I just ran across this message today. We had been on vacation when you sent it, and I'm just getting around to clearing old emails, when I spotted yours. Yes I am very interested how the name Riddell became a middle name for 2 generations (that I know of) in the Finn family of Jefferson Co., NY. Members of the family lived there from about 1810 until my grandfather moved to IL in the early 20th century. My gggg grandfather was Henry Finn, who witnessed the baptism of George Petit. Henry's son George (MN unknown) Finn had two sons given the middle name of Riddell. The 1st was George Riddell Finn, who died at 22 mos. The 2nd was my gg grandfather Edwin Riddell Finn. He had 2 sons, the 1st my ggrandfather Georger Amos F, and the 2nd Edwin Riddell F. The name disappears from subsequent generations. I had thought that maybe Agnes had been a sister to Henry, but you have explained that away. And it may be the my ggg grandfather George ? F. had Riddell as a middle name. Possibly his mother had been a Riddell. Our information about George's father is sketchy. He was born about 1750 in Salem, NY. We followed his progress through that of his son George. Henry was included in the 1st census of 1790. Unfortunately other than numbering those in a household they did not name them. Where is county Antrim? In Ireland or Scotland?
