I have a Matthew Riddell who married Christina / Christian Hislop in Glasgow in 1838. He was a Calico printer / Grocer / Spirit dealer. Their childern Isabella 1839 . Janet 1841 , Christina 1843 , Helen 1846 . Elizabeth Hyslop Riddell 1851 and Margaret 1853. The wife died shortly after this last birth and Matthew married Janet Fraser in 1854 and Mary Riddell was born in 1856. Then I loose track of them.I do know that Isabella married James McFarlane in Leeds in1859 so perhaps the family moved to England for a time.
Would love to hear from anybody who has more about this family.
