Thelma, I discovered your earlier posting re the RICKER connection to Germany. I posted today to this forum about my RIQUIR gr-gr grandparents from the EIFEL region near Blankenheim and Ripsdorf Germany. Gertrud RIQUIR married HEINRICH WILMS/WILLMS in 1857 in Blankenheim. Their son JOHANN JOSEPH WILLMS, b 1858 in Blankenheim married in Blankenheim, Jan. 1882 to MAGDALENA PAULY (maybe be ANNA Helena Magd.) b 1856 in Ripsdorf as Helena PAULE to JOHANN PAULE and BARBARA KLINKHAMMER from Ripsdorf / Dollendorf, who married in 1845, registed in Dollendorf Civil Records. My brother and wife, who live in Norway, just returned from Germany where they went to the church in Blankenheim and obtained a copy of one dusty, old original record and then went to "city hall" to obtain some civil records copies. They are now translating the records. So exciting to find this family. I am receiving their translations, one by one. Just rec'd marriage record this morn. My bugaboo is trying to discover Johann Joseph Willms and Magdalena PAULY and their infant son on ship's records. They married in 1882, had a child--my grandfather HEINRICH JOSEPH WILLMS, born Jan. 30, 1883 in Blankenheim, and immigrated that year while he was nursing (family lore). I know that by 1885 they had settled in Glen Haven, Grant County, Wisconsin (near a Jos. PAULI and near Tomas PAULI & Annie KLINKHAMMER) because that is the date of first birth registered--as WILLIAMS for all their children. They had 3 or 4 chldren there--3 known, 1 unknown. In 1898 they moved to Guttenberg, Clayton, Iowa where Johann Joseph (used Joseph) died April, 1909. Magdalena sometime after that moved to Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa where her sons Bernard and Joseph Henry (above Heinrich Joseph born in Germany) finally settled to raise families. By coincidence, my husband and I live in Tennessee, near Knoxville in Loudon County--moved here in 1997. Then discovered we have many roots in this area on both sides . . .
