Good Evening Lillian
Ricart is a defininte variation of Rickard.I finished writing a book late last year on the history and evolution of the Rickard name. The origin of the name is north German.Remember we are talking about a location near the Baltic sea rather than the German nation as we know it today.
The Norwegian Vikings brought the name across the top of Scotland down to Dublin (Ireland) about 850.From there it was to travel to Cornwall (south west UK).The Dutch Vikings brought the name south to France and then on into Spain and from there other variations spread to Italy. The French language could not handle to gutteral sound of the "ck" so it was softened to "ch" and hence we end up with Richard.Spanish and Italian variations tended to change the ending so we have Ricardi and Ricardo.
Hope this solves part of your riddle about the name.I have only scratched the surface and yet I have been able to find some 50 variations - I am sure there are more.
Regards and Best Wishes
