Lillie, it would make my sweet daddy so happy to know we were related to your Texas Ranger, Joe, and I honestly think we are related, but they are not the same man, and I haven't found the tie--it may be back in Germany.
Our Joe first shows up in Giddings, Lee Co. Texas in the 1880 census, and he was born in 1849 in Germany to Johann and Wilhelmina Berger Richarz. I've found records of his 1876 marriage to Augusta Schulz, and their properties and many children in Lee Co, and their subsequent move to Houston, but for the life of me I haven't found his immigration and arrival papers. The family scuttlebutt was that he came in through Galveston. I did contact the librarian in D'Hanis, and she did not show him coming in with that bunch.
Have you found family history that you could follow in Germany? I'm so serious...my dad is determined that we are related to H.J and Walter, but I've been unable to pick up the thread.
Cindy Allen
