Thanks for the Florence Rothman and Max Rich marriage information!
Since my brother's last post with details we've located some relatives and realized we are not in the Wolf Futoransky / Anne Taplitsky line but are descendants of Isaac Futoransky and Mollie Hoffman. After Isaac left for South Africa and did not return Great Grandma Mollie married Jack Rich, who was born in South Boston but adopted by a Susskind family of NY. The Futoranskys in Mollie's line adopted the Rich name.
Our grandfather, Max Rich, was the youngest of Isaac & Mollie's children, the others being Herman (or Hymie), Bertha (who married Izzy Casten) and Charlie.
Max & Florence had 3 children, our dad, Howard, being the eldest, was the only one born before the 1930 census. I have not been able to find Max, Florence or my dad in the 1930 census either. Their other children were Evelyn (now Zalmanovich) and Donald.
Our step great grandfather, Jack Rich, reportedly fought in the Spanish American War, was an Irish tenor and worked as an usher at the Loew's Paradise theater in the Bronx, as a security guard and a couple other things. Does anyone know anything about that Jack Rich? or Max?
Thanks again to sg who posted the marriage ctf info and to Karen Rich (wife of Dr. Dick Rich) who told us about JewishGen.com where I found my dad's cousin Dick Rich and learned from him and other relatives that he put us in touch with about Isaac & Mollie & Jack and Charlie and Herman and Bertha (whom I had actually known as a child but didn't know how we were related).
This is SO exciting!
