The Mary on the 1900 Census didn't have the right birthdate information compared to yours, but censuses can be very incorrect.

At any rate, I checked another Swedish database called Emihamn. Emihamn was made from registrations with Swedish port police before leaving Sweden. Here is someone who might be Mary but is she your Mary??????

First name: MARIA
Last name: RUTHQVIST
Age: 25 Gender: K (kvinna = woman)
Parish: LULEÅ County: BD (Norrbotten)
Port: GÖTEBORG
Date: 1883 09 06 (September 6; registration date)
Destination: LAKE
Fellows: NEJ (Nej = no. She traveled alone on her ticket.)
Source: 23:274:32265

I strongly urge a search of the Swenson Center records. They have a long waiting period if they do the research, so you might want to go there to check their extensive record collection (with a reservation!!) if you want to check more quickly. Their archive is at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, and that is near the Illinois/Iowa border and very close to Interstate 80.

Judy
