Tom,
I'm a descendant of John Ramsey, & I've been working on the genealogy & history of this family for many years.
In your Genforum post, you listed some info on this Ramsey family & included an old error that I've run into before:
John Ambrose Ramsey, Esq. DID MARRY 23 July 1812 in Cumberland Co., NC Miss Eliza DuBrutz (Marriage
Bond & Newspaper notice). They were the parents of 3 children:Maria Louisa Ramsey, Albert Gallatin Ramsey,
& John Calhoun Ramsey.John Ambrose Ramsey, Esq. was born 28 Nov 1788, & DIED 11 October 1821 in
Chatham Co., NC (Obit-Raleigh Register 26 October 1821)(also his death is listed in a deed that was part of his
estate settlement). He never traveled to Tennessee, though I believe his sons probably did.I don't know where
the story of his going to Memphis in 1844 got started, but it is in error.I guess it started with Robertson Topp.
It could have been a son of John Ambrose Ramsey, who would have been a grandson of John Ramsey, the
original holder of the NC Land Warrent that later became a TN Land Grant.
I hope this post helps to clear up the error of the son of John Ramsey going to Memphis in 1844.
