James Richard Rice is my GGGrandfather. He is buried at Bethel Church, Budds Creek,Md.Thomas Sylvester is buried there too.I put a military marker on James Richard's vault some years back.It was a private in the 9th Virginia Infantry, CSA.His brother Francis died at point lookout prison camp at the end of the civil war and is buried on confederate hill, loudon park cemetary, Baltimore, Md.James Richard 's father was John Barnette Rice and his mother was I believe Mary Levenia Welch.John disappeared around 1850 from the county.I don't know where John Barnette was born but rice's don't show up on the St.Mary's county census until either 1810 or 1820.I suspect they came from Westmoreland County, Virginia(the potomac river seperates Westmoreland from St. Mary's County). There are Westmoreland County will records that refer to rice's living in St. Mary's county, Md.Anyway, I have at home the names of all of James Richard's brother and sisters if you are interested. Regards Brian
