Joan, I cannot prove that is my William, but it certainly is worth investigating. He seems to have been a wanderer and perhaps he was handicapped and that is why he was not tithable. I have transcriptions of some Henry County tax lists. All of the R's are together, but not in alphabetical order. 1778 Rice, William then 16 names later appears Rice, Spencer and next Rice, Daniel, 15 names later appears Rice, Benjamin, 26 names later appears Rice, John-Pittsylvania. Since Daniel and Spencer appear in succession, this may be of some significance. 1779 Rice, William, 8 names later is Rice, John, 3 names later, Rice, Benjamin with Rice, William following in sucession, 17 names later appears Rice, Daniel, Russell, John, Rice, Spencer, 9 names later, Rice, William. 1780 Rice, William, 10 names later Rice Daniel followed by Rice, Spencer in succession. Maybe old Spencer is in your line! Martha Notify Administrator about this message?
