Hi Joan,
The 1790 personal property list of Henry County shows William Rice as "levy free" with 2 horses. In 1786 William Rice m. Margaret Hayes in Montgomery County, VA. In 1787 William is shown with 1 tithable and it is noted he is not tithable. In 1788 William and Spencer are listed on Montgomery County's delinquent tax list with a notation they have gone to KY. William was the son of James Rice said to have been b. in 1726 d. 1844 in Gallia County, OH. I have not been able to account for all of the years in between, but William shows up in the 1850 Census of Carter County, KY with Margaret. We believe he was the father of Archibald b 1795 in VA and Sherrod among others in Carter County. My husband is in Group 5 of the DNA studies. This includes some of the Carter County crew as well as Stephen Rice b. 1795 in VA of Harlan/Bell counties, KY who stated in the 1880 census his father was b. in MD and his mother in PA. Also included in Group 5 are several individuals who can trace their lineage back to eastern TN, however we have been unable to make a connection. I noted Tandy and Stephen Senter are in the 1790 list of Henry County as well.
Has anyone from Daniel's line participated in the DNA studies? We really need to have someone from Spencer's line tested as well.
Martha
