Marchesi Ricci in XVII & XVIII centuries, & Risso-Patron of South America
Hi: I am trying to find out the origins and family history of Sebastiano Risso (born in Genoa in 1686-died in Catamarca, present day Argentina, ca. 1758), the son of Antonio Risso and Maria Giustiniani. Searching in Genoa (very difficult to find anything, due to the lack of indexes in Parish books and Notarial registers, and also because of an enormous amount of lost documentation) I came upon the Buonarotti register of Genoa´s leading families up to the XVIII century. There, in the pages dedicated to the Giustiniani, I found a Maria-Benedetta Giustiniani (daughter of Giacomo Ottavio) married in about 1680 to a "Marchese Ricci". Could this be the same couple as the Maria Giustiniani/Antonio Risso (the parents of Sebastiano, the founder of his family in South America?). They are at least contemporary, with the added coincidence of the lady´s name and the gentleman´s surname (Risso being the same as Ricci). Later on, through Internet I found of a Francesco-Antonio Ricci, Marchese di Cesereto, Conte di Piova´ and Signore di Torre dell´Isola (dead on 11-12-1750) who married in 1704 to Eleonora Basso della Rovere, daughter of the first Marchese di Montabone and Conte di Bistagno, in Casale, Monferrato (this I found in the "Genealogie delle Dinastie Italiane", by Davide Shamà, Andrea Battelli and others, looking under "Basso della Rovere"). Could this Francesco-Antonio be a son or a relative of the Marchese Ricci married in about 1680 to Maria-Benedetta Giustiniani, and maybe even a brother of Sebastiano? The latter, who signed "Sebastian de Risso-Patron" after 1712 (for no known reason) had a son by his first wife called Jose-Francisco, and another son by his second wife called Antonio. Their numerous descendants formed the Risso Patron family of Argentina, Rizo Patron family of Peru and the Risopatron of Chile. Any information, comments or possible clues will be most appreciated. Paul Rizo-Patron.
