thanks, Sally. Here's one more for your surname list. All of our branches descended from Amos Mousaw, son of Michel Mouso spelled their names MOUSAW. There are many branches of this family today in St. Lawrence county, New York and of course, like all families, the branches have spread out from the original location on Long Sault Island in the St. Lawrence River, near Massena, NY to the farmland and ironworks in Brasher, NY and on to more distant homes.
Michael is both our key and our stumbling block. We know he arrived in NY in time for the 1840 census and to get married to Adelaide ( Marguerite) Mylot ( Mulot/Mellot) but as neither listed their parents on the marriage register, we are looking for any hint that will connect him to the broader Quebec genealogy.
Michel, son of Jean Desliet Mousseau and Marie Ricard seems the likely possiblilty as the surname and dates match and we know that Michel's granddaughter Ida visited family in the Montreal area but....are we barking up the wrong tree? Hopefully someone will have a clue for us.
Thanks for all of your efforts.
