James Sweet of RI: An Old Mystery

TAG volume 53 page 28 has an article entitled "James Sweet of RI: A New Mystery" in which it is suggested (proved?) that the James Sweet who married Mary Greene was James (3) Sweet son of John (2) Sweet and was not James (2) Sweet son of the immigrant John (1) Sweet. Is anyone familiar enough with this controversy to know if this is now considered to be the case?
