French-Canadian Travel 1860s
My family emigrated from Quebec to Rhode Island just after the American Civil War (1868).Many other families did the same in order to work in the cotton mills and other industries. My family happened to travel to Warren, Rhode Island, but I'm sure that travel to other locations was similar. My question has to do with the mode of travel. How did most families of modest means make that journey?Did they come by boat, train, ???Mine was a large family contingent with many children and cousins so cost was a big concern.
Thanks for any help you might provide.
