There is lots of info around the internet that Laban was a daughter of Sarah Cooper and grandson of Moses Cooper of Glocester, RI.It appears he may have been born out of wedlock.Sarah Cooper married Nathan Taft in 1760 and had several more children. All of them are mentioned in the will (1802)of her father, Moses Cooper.
I do not see an earlier marriage record in RI for Sarah Cooper.I do see Laben's birth recorded in Glocester, RI with the DOB that you have.It was transcribed as Thompson on the index (probably just an error). No father's name is given which supports the theory he was born out of wedlock.
