Well, considering that in 1910 Fortunat was working in the mills according to the census info sent to you, have you considered that perhaps he died? Those old textile mills were far from the safest places to be working. He might have been injured and subsequently died from the injury.
There was also the worldwide Flu Pandemic in the 1916-1918 period. He might have been a victim of that.
All I have available to me to look at are the databases available on line.I pretty much scoured Ancestry and sent you what I could find.Have you tried a free trial to Ancestry to get access to all the databases yet?You might think of some alternative name spellings beyond those which I tried to use to search for Fortunat. Or expand the search to "All States" or even consider that he returned to the hometown in Canada so search for him in Canada as well.
I sent you a transcript of Fortunat's baptism/birth but you can download the actual image to your computer from the database at Ancestry if you go for the free trial. Also the images from the censuses and city directories.
I would suggest that you take a look at the LDS site familysearch.org and search the FHL Catalog under the Library tab to see what has been filmed for Blackstone, MA and Woonsocket, RI.
There was a gap in the city directories for the period of 1913 - 1918.Fortunat would have been of age during part of that time and might have appeared in the city directories. If he did and then died, the directory after his death year might have an entry for him and state his death date or if he left the Woonsocket - Blackstone area it might say "removed to" and then where he went.
I took a quick look at the FHL catalog for Blackstone MA and the city directories that are missing on Ancestry are available on microfilm but you would need to go to your local Family History Center, which you also locate in a sub tab under the main Library tab, put in a slip & pay a fee - it was $5.50/film early last fall the last time I borrowed a film -to borrow the film from Salt Lake City and research the film at the FHC which will have film readers available.
Rhode Island and it appears MA both did a census in 1915.You might want to look at those FHL films to see if Fortunat was still around either in Woonsocket or Blackstone. It would help you to narrow down the time frame in which he "disappeared".
There are also FHL films of WW I military records besides the WW I Draft cards at Ancestry you might want to look at. And there are often vital records beyond what Ancestry has in its databases that were also filmed by the LDS.
Church records which might reveal a burial if Fortunat died would be another place to look but as some of his family is in Precious Blood Cemetery, I would hazard a guess and say that that would be the family church. And that being a Catholic Church, it is most probably that the LDS wasn't allowed to film those records but there are probably books at the AFGS, which I mentioned in my last reply, for Precious Blood Church.
Also, have you tried to contact the cemetery?I don't think it is one of the Providence Diocese's* cemeteries so it is possible that you can get burial information if it exists. With the Providence Diocese's cemeteries, the only way you can get a burial location for anyone is if you have the death date but that doesn't mean that ALL Catholic cemeteries kept their records in the same fashion as the Providence Diocese does.
MA also will search for a death for you for a fee.http://www.mass-doc.com/massachusetts_death_certificate.htmhttp://www.mass-doc.com/massachusetts_death_certificate.htm
The whole point of course to looking for a death for Fortunat is that he seems to drop from the face of the Earth which can often mean he died. And to eliminate on possibility for why he can't be found on the 1920 census.
If no death is found, then you know you need to try and find where he went to which would involve looking at the city directories and hoping that a. he was in them and b. that is he was in them and left the area there will be an entry for him that says "removed to."Or maybe a broader search of Ancestry than what I did. This is something that you could try if you did a free trial.
And, if you are anywhere in the southern New England area, then you might consider a trip or two to the AFGS in Woonsocket. They could possiblybe able to help as they do have transcripts of church records for RI and MA for churches that were primarily French Canadian in the make-up of their parishes.
Perhaps, after trying all this, if you still haven't found Fortunat, someone else might think of some other suggestions. As I said, I pretty much scoured what was available to me and sent you all I could find.these suggestion here are things you will need to do yourself.
