Trish,
I would suspect that he was a descendent of George and Martha Potter, but I couldn't prove it. The name Ichabod was common in their family and they were in Rhode Island in the early 1600's.
George Potter was born in 1584 in London and died Sept, 1640 in RI. Martha (no surname known) was born about 1585 in England. They had about a dozen children.
