Wilcox family question
I've been doing research on my Wilcox ancestry, and I ran into a question. I'm descended from John Wilcox and Mary Crosby. John was born 1757 of Richmond, Washington Rhode Island and he died 1823 in Sardinia, Erie, New York. His wife was born 1757 in New York.
I'm trying to establish who is the mother of John, because I've found conflicting research, since John's father was apparently married 3 times. According to the LDS records, John's mother could be any one of these 3 wives, different records state different things.
John's father was Edward Wilcox, born 1709, in South Kingston, Washington, R.i., death was:Aft 1774 Richmond, , R.i.
Edward Wilcox's wives were as follows:
Amy Sheffield, born 1718 of Exeter, Washington, R.i., married Edward in 1735 in Exeter Rhode Island, but it states that she died 1750, which means that she would have died before John was born, if John's birthdate is correct. But the LDS records still indicate in multiple entries that she is the mother, not the other two wives of Edward. Yet, in other LDS entries, and the ancestry.com family tree, it indicates that either or both the other wives are the mother of John. I'm totally confused, here.
The second wife of Edward Wilcox was Marcy Robinson, born24 Mar 1716, in Westerly, Washington, R.i., marriage date: 1 May 1738 in Westerly, Washington, R. I.
The third wife was Esther UNKNOWN, born Abt 1713 in Westerly, Washington, Rhode Island, marriage date:Abt 1745 Westerly, Washington, Rhode Island.
If you have any information on this ancestral line, or if you know the source of the confusion, please email me at: [email protected].
Trying to sort out this mess in hopes to properly document my Wilcox line.
Thank you SO MUCH!!!
Regards,
Sarah.
