Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

Providence has 7 hills (like Rome) and Federal Hill is one of them. Dean Street is still there - the RI Historical Society or Providence Public Library probably has a city directory for the 1940's that would tell you more about what the area was like. The Providence home page calls Federal Hill "Little Italy" (www.providenceri.com) - best pizza in the world.
